Did you pack the right stuff in your child's lunch box?

When it comes to packing lunch for your kids 5 days a week, here’s the catch…

Not only might you have some picky eaters on your hands, but they can be even pickier about what other kids see them eat.

You want the lunch to be nutritious, but in order to keep your child happy (by catering to her sweet tooth and her desire to impress her friends with what’s in  her lunch box,) you might be tempted to put some sweet treats, or good ol’ junk food in there.

It’s a delicate balance for any mom.

So if you want to make sure the good stuff you pack gets eaten, and he doesn’t only eat the “treats” you included, you’re going to need some fresh ideas for packing lunches that your kids will love. Good Housekeeping has a list of 11 ideas…

…that will make it easier for you to pack school lunches for your kids.

“One of the biggest mistakes parents make is sending too much and the wrong kinds of food in their child’s lunch box,” says Elizabeth Ward, author of Healthy Foods, Healthy Kids.

In addition to the 11 ideas for keeping the lunches balanced and nutritious, they also suggest that you pack a cold 100% juice juice box in your child’s lunch box to keep everything else cold until lunch time. Brilliant!

But remember, cold juice boxes will “sweat” so it helps to wrap a dry paper towel around them first to absorb the condensation. This is especially important to remember if you’re using a brown paper bag to hold the lunch – otherwise, you’re likely to wind up with a bottomless lunch bag and and a very sad (and hungry) school goer.
