Is your teen daughter aware of these statistics on STDs?

No matter how much you try to get your teens to put off having sex until they’re a little older, they still may not listen to you.

You’re may be better off trying to get them to understand that you’re not just protecting them from getting emotionally hurt…

But that there are also medical reasons why taking more precautions is necessary.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were 1.2 million cases of chlamydia in 2008.

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease that can lead to infertility in women.

And there are other STD’s to be concerned about…

The number of cases of syphilis (another sexually transmitted disease) in teens has also increased.

Unlike chlamydia, syphilis can lead to death if left untreated.

And then there are gonorrhea cases, which has actually dropped since 2007.

Girls between the ages of 15 and 19 “had the largest reported number of chlamydia and gonorrhea cases” according to Dr. Sue Hubbard.

The numbers continue to rise as screening becomes more advanced.

As a parent, you can protect your teens from STDs by emphasizing the importance of screening before sex, and that many contraceptives like condoms, the pill, foams, or sponges, don’t protect them from these types of sexually transmitted diseases.

What do you think about this rise in sex infections among teens?
