Long-distance relationships are hard, especially for a big holiday-goer family, and especially if Mommy or Daddy is deployed.

Anita Tedaldi, an author, journalist, and military mom/wife, shares her experience with spending the holidays without her husband.

She and her kids have spent a few Thanksgivings and Christmases without the man-of-the-house around.

One of my favorite tips she shares is to spend the holidays with the spouse’s family.

Not only would there be more people around to be with, but it’s a perfect chance for you and your kids to get to know the other family.

My other favorite tip is to send packages or write letters – anything to make the other person feel closer to your family.
