Reinforcing your child's positive behaviors can improve their behavior altogether.
Have you heard about behavior charts?
They’re cute little pieces of paper that can actually have a HUGE impact on helping your child behave better.
It’s all about reinforcing the positive behaviors that you want your child to do more of so they can build new habits…
But there are some very important things you should know about if you’re going to start using behavior charts with your kids at home…
For instance…
- You need to state the new behavior in positive language.
This means that instead of writing “Stop yelling” on the behavior chart, you need to write what you want your child to do instead.
Write “Use your regular voice” on the behavior chart so that they know what you DO want them to do.
- You need to start small.
I know there may be a lot of things your kids are doing that you’d like to see improve, but it takes time to create new habits and break old ones.
(If you’ve ever tried starting a new habit of working out, you know what I mean, right?)
Keep this in mind when you’re using behavior charts and let your child go for small wins so they can build up their confidence.
