How much do you research your child's doctor before taking them for a visit?
Society tends to have a high respect for doctors. Maybe it’s because they think doctors know everything, doctors are smart, doctors endured many years of schooling, doctors can fix problems.
Sorry, folks. Doctors are aren’t really THAT extraordinary. They’re people just like you and me.
Which means…they make mistakes, they can overlook important things, they have personalities (both good and bad).
What I’m trying to say is: don’t assume doctors are right 100% of the time just because they’re doctors. And when it comes to choosing the right doctor for your baby, diplomas and status shouldn’t be the deciding factor.
When choosing a pediatrician, ask each doctor these 10 questions…
- What is your philosophy about child rearing?
- How much are your hospital charges and fees for office visits?
- Does a pediatric nurse practitioner work in your office?
- Do you charge for phone calls?
- Do you return every call?
You wouldn’t want a doctor that ignores your concerns would you?
- What is the scheduled length of your appointments?
- How often do you want to see the baby in the first year, and why?
- Do you have a “sick-child” waiting room?
- If you share a practice, will I always see you?
- Do you have evening or Saturday hours?
How did you find your a doctor for your child? In your experience, is it worth taking these extra steps to ensuring that your child will be in good hands?
