The next time your kids insist that they’ve run out of toys to play with, consider directing them to the garage or storage cabinet instead of making a trip to the local toy store.

Household items like toilet paper/paper towel rolls, tissue boxes, and diaper packets can be great for imaginative building.

When my sister 6 years old or so, she would design then build houses and forts out of the many VHS tapes that my family used to have. Now at 18, she is in school studying to be a fashion designer.

New fun can surprisingly come out of old things that you may have lying around in the house, or stored somewhere. With some imagination and creativity, your kids can have fun with ordinary household goods. No need for new toys that they’ll probably grow out of later!
