Childhood Diabetes: What You Need To Know

by Miss Mona

In some cases, diabetes can be prevented.

There are 2 types of diabetes you need to know about:

Type I Diabetes: Caused if your child *lacks* insulin.

Type II Diabetes: Caused if your child’s body is *resistant* to insulin.

(Insulin is a natural hormone in the body that controls blood sugar levels.)

Only one of these forms of diabetes can be prevented, and that’s Type II.

Children and adults who have Type II diabetes are generally overweight. So there are things you can do to help PREVENT your kids from becoming Type II diabetics…

Here are 4 simple things you can do:

  1. Eat foods that are low in fat, but high in other nutrients.
  2. Cut down on the fast food and sodas.
  3. Be active and make exercise a daily habit.
  4. Ask a doctor if you and/or your kids are concerned about their weight.

Taking the necessary steps to prevent your kids from getting Type II diabetes starts with you. Encourage and motivate your kids to stay healthy and you’ll have one less thing to deal with!
