So you’re tucking your children in and getting them ready for a bedtime story. Which story do you choose? There’s Cinderella, Oh, The Places You’ll Go, Where the Wild Things Are, Charlotte’s Web, I Wish Daddy Didn’t Drink So Much…
Wait, what was that last one?
I Wish Daddy Didn’t Drink So Much?
There’s something about the title that makes me think that book is so wrong for young children…
Maybe it’s because it exposes children to parental flaws that they shouldn’t be worrying about at such a young age. Or maybe it has to do with how depressing that sounds…
Wait ’til you read a quote from the book:
For Christmas, Daddy made me a sled. He brought it to my room on Christmas Eve. I knew it was only Daddy in a Santa Suit because he bumped into my bed twice and spilled beer on the rug.
I don’t know about you, but I think children should be reading about topics that inspire them, not about a drunk Dad or marijuana or drugs.
