Does drinking chocolate milk count as drinking milk?

And the National Dairy Council is trying to make it seem like chocolate milk is a good idea for your kids.
Don’t fall for it.
This is just a clever marketing campaign that will help them SELL MORE MILK.
Remember the Got Milk? campaign?
Very catchy and clever, right?
All those posters with milk mustaches?
All designed to make you buy more milk.
But here’s the thing…
Just because the people who make money from milk sales are telling you that it’s a good idea for your kids to drink chocolate milk…doesn’t mean that it is.
You need to educate yourself about the potential benefits or side effects from your child drinking chocolate milk.
Yes, chocolate milk does have vitamin D and calcium – but is not the only form that your kids can get those nutrients in…
How do you think kids with dairy allergies are surviving?
They’re doing just fine without drinking chocolate milk at school or at home…
and they’re not suffering from terrible Vitamin D or calcium deficiencies.
So wake up to the marketing that is going on here.
Just because people are “raising their hand for chocolate milk” doesn’t mean that you have to also.
You can make sure your kids are choosing better drink options that don’t have a bunch of extra sugar and calories in them.
Trust that your kids can get along without chocolate milk. Show them the way. Be a good role model.
Don’t raise your hand for chocolate milk.
Your kids will survive and can be healthy and strong without having chocolate milk at lunch in the cafeteria.
