Dealing Junk Food At School Gets 12-Year-Old Suspended

by Hong Kong Tran

Do you worry what your kids are eating at school when you aren't around?

A 12-year-old boy who attends Cardinal Heenan High school in Liverpool was recently suspended for selling junk food…

Harsh much?

Apparently the school banned junk food as a way to relieve childhood obesity, which is a big problem in developed countries like England and America.

School officials referred to the boy’s actions as “dealing,” that there are about 6 or 7 “dealers” in the school, and that “busts” occur 3 to 4 times a week.

What’s your take on this? Is suspension too harsh for this kind of behavior? If this kind of “dealing” is inevitable, are there any other alternatives to banning junk food?

Perhaps schools should replace junk food with healthier food choices, such as fruit snacks or peanuts, instead of banning junk food altogether.

What do you think about this boy’s suspension? And what do you think his parents should do about his behavior?
