When I was a teen, getting out of bed in the morning was SUCH a hard thing to do. It wasn’t because I was depressed or anything like that–I just couldn’t get myself to get up. And it didn’t help that I wasn’t a morning person, either.
My alarm was pretty much useless, because I would press the snooze button the moment it went off. So my mom was my alarm, oftentimes going off six or seven times each morning. Needless to say, I was late to school more times than the school allowed.
I’m sure many of you have this problem with your teens. They just won’t get out of bed! Here are five things you can do…
- Wake your teen by placing a plate of breakfast next to his or her bed
- Take the blanket from your teen
- Drip cold water on your teen
- Flip the mattress
- Simply tell them that it’s time to get up, but in a very stern voice to let them know you’re not joking around
I’ll tell you now that #3 will not yield very positive results, as in your teens will likely be very upset with you. I like the idea of waking your teen with breakfast, as many teens don’t even eat breakfast. Another idea would be to play your teen’s favorite song (not YOUR favorite song!).
How do you wake your teens in the morning if they don’t get up when they need to? Which methods work best for you? Which methods would you suggest against?
