Get Your Teen Into College With These College Interview Tips

by Hong Kong Tran

Are your teens preparing for their college admission interviews?

When so many college-bound students apply for the same colleges that your kids are applying to, it’s hard to stand out.

The interviewing process, one of the last steps to determine whether your teens will be accepted into the college, is one of the most difficult parts of the application process.

There are no do-overs – your teens will either nail the interview or bomb it.

Dr. Katherine Cohen, founder of IvyWise and ApplyWise.com, provides 6 tips to share with your teens so that they DON’T bomb it.

The tips include…

1  Know the school that is conducting the interview
2. Know yourself
3. Arrive early
4. Elaborate
5. Ask questions.

And most importantly, #6….
Do some mock interviews.

Practice makes perfect. Whether it is with a friend, parent or teacher mock interviews can be an extremely helpful tool in your interview preparation. Sure, you’ll know the answers to your mock-interviewer’s questions because you’ve done your homework but responding out-loud can be a challenge all its own.

Your teens may have all their answers prepared in their heads, but when it comes to speaking, it won’t come as a surprise if they mess up.
Practice, but don’t memorize.

Check out 25 of the most popular college interview questions at the link below so you and your teens can start doing some mock interviews together.
