It’s that time of the year again…

The time for Girl Scout Cookies. I’m beginning to see them with their wagons full of irresistable goodies around the city.

Part of me admires the intimacy in their selling cookies to customers face-to-face, but the other part can’t help but wonder how much more they would sell if they had online sales.

Well, one Girl Scout did take the cookies to the Internet by making a YouTube video to promote her cookies. But, apparently some parents did not approve and tattled to the Girl Scout Cookie Program, which booted the girl’s video.

The Girl Scouts of America has a “longstanding prohibition of online sales,” but isn’t it time to get with the program?

How do you feel about what the little girl did? Also, do you feel the Girl Scouts of America should keep their tradition of keeping sales offline, or do you feel it’s time to catch up with the rest of the world?

As a Girl Scout Leader (for 12 years), I can tell you that there are reasons why girl scouts cannot sell online. The cookie sales run during different time frames of the year in different regions. We want all girls to have a fair chance at selling cookies. But more importantly, the girls really need the experience of selling face to face. During the meetings leading up to cookie sales, the girls learn about marketing, sales and the financial procedures. If they are allowed to sell online, though utilizing other skills, they do not get the experience of face to face selling.

With that being said, I do believe that there are some positives to being able to market themselves online.
