Who said New Year’s Resolutions are just for adults? New Year’s is just as much for children as it is for adults. So try something different this year. Encourage your kids to make their own New Year’s resolutions.
The American Academy of Pediatrics provides 20 HEALTHY New Year’s resolutions for your kids. I’ve picked out what I think are the best ones for each age group:
Take a look…
Preschoolers
I won’t tease dogs – even friendly ones. I will avoid being bitten by keeping my fingers and face away from their mouths.
This is a great one, because it’s funny and something that preschoolers would understand.
School Age Kids
I’ll never give out personal information such as my name, home address, school name or telephone number on the Internet. Also, I’ll never send a picture of myself to someone I chat with on the computer without my parent’s permission.
As a parent you have the responsibility of keeping your kids safe. This includes keeping them safe on the Internet. You’ve heard about online sexual predators. Don’t let them get to your kids.
TeenI will wipe negative “self talk” (i.e. “I can’t do it” or “I’m so dumb”) out of my vocabulary.
This is so important, because as difficult as it is to take care of teens, they have so much to be proud of and so much to accomplish.
What are some of your kids’ New Year’s resolutions? Is there a story behind it? If so, we want to hear it!
