Acne…
Your teens call them pimples, or zits. But no matter which word is used to describe those embarrassing bumps on their faces, necks and sometimes backs, one thing is certain: teens hate them.
When I was a teenager, there was nothing I hated more than waking up to see a pizza face staring back at me in the mirror.
Those pimples were unflattering and just plain gross. I was self-conscious when I talked to my peers.
I thought, they’re not looking at ME, they’re looking at those pinkish life-ruiners!
Your teens may be feeling the same way. Acne considerably lowers a teen’s self-esteem because they tend to let their acne define them.
Self.com features an article on how diet can affect the skin. Your teens may find this information useful.
For example, some studies have found that there’s a link between teens’ milk intake and acne.
Here’s why…
Androgen is a hormone that is associated with oily skin and acne. Milk has its own natural androgens…your teens have their own levels of androgen. Add the 2 together and you have an increase in the level of androgens, leading to more oily skin and more acne.
Although you may not need to exclude all milk from your teens’ diets, it may be useful to experiment with how much milk your teens drink and their amount of pimples.
Do your teens have a hard time dealing with their acne? If so, have you changed their diets at all, or do you believe that the pimples will just go away once they’re older?
