How Can I Treat My Child’s Constipation?

by Hong Kong Tran on February 4, 2010

Certain foods can help your child's digestive system.

When it comes to your child’s constipation, you can be the doctor and help prevent it before it gets bad. A trip to the ER can be very inconvenient and expensive. Let’s not let it get to that point.

Jennifer Herschko from Parents Ask shares a list of foods to avoid and eat if your child is constipated. Here are just some of the foods…
Foods to feed your child to treat constipation:

  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Plums
  • Prunes
  • Apricots
  • Grapes
  • Watermelon
  • Blueberries

At least two servings of any of the fruits above should help treat your child’s constipation.

Foods your constipated child should avoid:

  • High fiber foods (bananas, rice, apples)
  • Beans
  • Corn
  • Broccoli and cauliflower
  • Granola
  • Nuts
  • Bell peppers
  • Raisins

For a more complete list, consult your child’s pediatrician. It’s important that you monitor what your kids are eating, and make sure they’re not sneaking in foods they shouldn’t be eating at school.
