Are you a first-time dad wondering how you can pitch in and help out?
It can be overwhelming for everyone when a new baby is born…
But Dads sometimes get lost in the shuffle…
So much attention gets put on the first-time mother, or the new baby, that Dads can start feeling left out and uninformed about how they can help or be involved after the new baby is born.
Over at Baby411 (like Baby Information!) I found an article with some easy things that Dads can do after the baby is born to help and to feel included.
Dads, here are some ideas for what you can do…
- If your spouse is feeling moody, anxious, or depressed after the baby is born, comfort her and let her know that there are a lot of hormonal changes going on in her body and that it’s okay. (If this persists, be sure to talk to your family doctor about it.)
- Limit the number of visitors that come to see the baby and your spouse. Both will be tired and they need you to be their advocate.
- Help out with household chores. If you don’t have time to do the cleaning yourself, or taking care of the yard, see if you can enlist the help of family members to pitch in with making meals too.
