How To Cope When Kids Grow Up Too Fast

by Hong Kong Tran

Do you feel like time is just flying by?

Kids are growing up so fast these days…and you can’t really stop them.

It probably just seems like yesterday that you were changing your kids’ diapers. Now your kids are going to school, getting boyfriends and girlfriends, working, and planning their own lives.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the phrase, “Moms will be moms.” Although that may be true, it’s important that you learn to let go instead of holding your kids back.

So even if you can’t really stop your kids from growing up, you can, however, cope with this fact.

Here’s how to do it…
Nancy Simmons gives you four ways you can cope, but this is the best one:

Realize that each child is different:

You know your child better than anyone else, so use your judgment to deal with sensitive issues according to their temperament and attitude. Don’t follow what your friends or sibilngs are doing with their children; there’s no guarantee that what works for one child will work for another. The better you’re able to read your child, the more you’ll be able to help them as they grapple with issues that are beyond their understanding.

When you kids learn to think for themselves, when they learn to make their own decisions, this is when you should realize that your kids have their own individualities. Don’t lump your kids into the same bunch as other parents’ kids. This is when your instincts come in handy. Copying other parents in how they deal with their growing kids is a mistake that you should prevent from the start.

Do you think your kids are growing up too fast? How do you feel about that? How have you changed the way you treat your kids based on the fact that they’re growing up so quickly?
