Spending the holidays without close family members can be extremely lonely.
Not having auntie or uncle around can be difficult for your kids to deal with, especially if you have tightly-knit extended family.
That’s why Scholastic gives 20 ways to bridge the gap between you and your faraway family members during this season.
Here are just some of my favorites…
Cookie Swap:
Schedule a day to bake cookies, a cake, or another family recipe with your child, and invite your long-distance relative to do the same. Call your family member during the project so that your child can share cooking tips and stories, then exchange your culinary creations via mail. Include the recipe card with your treats.
Movie Night:
Schedule a day where and your child can watch a movie at the same time that your relative is watching. Just make sure it’s the same movie, and that both parties are able to call one another to talk about the best parts.
Web Replay:
If you have a Web site and your relative is online, consider taking digital photos and posting them on a site throughout the day. That way, your relative can visually check in with what’s going on.
Which is your favorite way to connect with faraway family members this holiday season? Do you have another way that isn’t listed on the website? Share with us!
