February 14th. Some kids love that day, and others hate it with a strong passion… (I know this year I’ll hate it.)
But wait a minute, Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be a holiday for boyfriends and girlfriends. It could be for you and your children, too. Use this day to show your kids how much you love them. You don’t have to go along with this marketing scheme and get them gifts and candy (although you certainly can do that, too!). Instead, try this…
Give them your time, which is, I think, the best gift of all.
Plan a dinner with your kids. Go out to eat, or make them their favorite foods. I know you’re busy, but it’s important to have that special moment with your kids, so that you can remind them (and yourself) how much they mean to you.
This year, February 14th is on a Sunday. Your kids may have plans with their significant others that day, but you can always do Friday, or Saturday. My sister and I will be going out to dinner together, just the two of us (unless, of course, she gets a boyfriend…) because Valentine’s Day will be fulfilled for me if I spend it with someone I truly care about.
What are you doing with your kids this year on Valentine’s Day? Do you have a Valentine’s Day tradition you’d be willing to share?
