Is it hard to wake up your kids in the morning?
Parent expert, Michele Borba, says that you don’t have to be your child’s personal “Big Ben” anymore.
So if you found yourself yelling WAKE UP to your kids last year, maybe it’s time to try a new approach this year…
One that actually teaches your kids some responsibility – and can also be fun.
Borba suggests getting your kids their own alarm clocks.
By teaching your kids how to set their personal alarm clock the night before, they can take more ownership and responsibility for waking up in the morning.
Don’t worry, there are LOTS of kid-friendly alarm clocks available. You don’t have to get one with an annoying ring that makes you want to run screaming out of the house.
Some other tips for getting your kids up and at’em in the morning come from Robin McClure:
- Stagger you kids’ wake up times.
- Plan breakfast ahead of time.
- Pick out clothing the night before.
- Establish a consequence if your kids don’t wake up the first time you ask them or their alarm goes off.
(Earlier bedtime is an appropriate consequence in this situation.) - And she has others listed in her article too…
Getting your kids up in the morning takes some advanced preparation and forethought if you really want it to work consistently.
So take the time to figure out what systems are going to work best for your family and kids. Find the ones that work. Then keep doing those!
