If It Snows Where You Live, The Police Are Watching You

Did you know you could get pulled over for "peephole driving?"

I know it’s cold out there…

And that sometimes you’re in a rush as you’re leaving the house…

But if you have frost and snow all over the hood of your car, on the windshield, on the roof of your car and also the trunk…and you leave it there, don’t be surprised if you wind up talking to a policeman.

This transition from fall into winter has become known as “peephole driving” season and it’s when people just scrape off a little section of their windshield to see through (instead of removing all of the frost, ice, and snow).

Not only might you wind up with a fine for driving around like that, but you could also wind up seriously injuring someone or yourself.

Peephole driving dramatically reduces a driver’s field of vision, and it increases the likelihood that snow or ice can become dislodged and hit another vehicle or a pedestrian, according to police and safety advocates.

There are also some very sobering comments left on that article if you click through to read them all.

Your Turn: If you live in a cold weather climate, what do you do to take care of your vehicle? How do you make it easy to remove the frost, snow, and ice so that it’s safe to drive?
