Parents are learning to counsel their kids about abuse and molestation.
I know you don’t want to think about your child being sexually abused or molested…
But it’s something all parents NEED to think about.
At least to the point of knowing the signs of abuse so that if your child has been been sexually abused or molested, you can get them help right away and stop it if it’s still going on.
Statistics about sexual assault and sexual abuse are enough to make even the most positive and confident parents cringe.
That’s why it’s so important that you know the signs of abuse to look for…
In some cases the behaviors you’re going to read about in this article aren’t actually related to sexual abuse or molestation…
But you need to look into them carefully to make sure, because in the worst-case situations, they are.
So, if you see any of these signs, please do NOT ignore them. Take them seriously enough to look into them and see if there’s something to be concerned about.
3 of the 7 tips to watch for:
1. When your child is repeatedly touching themselves, whether this is at home in their bedroom or bathroom or when they are out in public. This does not mean when they casually touch themselves, all children will do this, I mean when they are compulsively touching themselves and they appear very anxious when they are doing so.
2. Stimulating themselves or having contact sexually with pets.
3. Repeatedly and compulsively drawing pictures of genitalia.
Who can you talk to if you see your child doing these, or the other behaviors listed in the full article?
- Your child’s pediatrician.
- Your child’s school guidance counselor.
- The National Sexual Assault Online Hotline
And make sure you read the other signs of abuse on the full article.
Your Turn: If you have resources to help parents if they suspect their kids have been sexually abused or molested, please post them in the comments section so everyone can benefit. Thank you.
