Protect Your Kids: Stop Forcing Them To Hug Their Relatives

by Hong Kong Tran

Have you ever said to your child, "Go give them a hug."

Parents tend to make their kids hug relatives they hardly even know just to make a good impression.

Many parents think that forcing their kids to hug will make their kids more compassionate.

Let me tell you now that compassion doesn’t come from giving reluctant hugs…no siree.

You may think that hugging is harmless, but there are many things WRONG about forcing your kids to hug.

First of all, you’re failing to take your kids’ feelings into consideration.

Maybe they don’t WANT to hug…thought about that?

Imagine yourself giving a hug to someone you barely know…grudgingly.

You can get yourself to do it, but would it be a genuine hug?

Of course not, because you didn’t want to give them a hug in the first place!

What you can do instead…

Let your kids have control over whom they hug. Let them have the choice.

This can help your kids in more serious situations too…

When it comes to sexual abuse, kids that have dominion over their bodies will be more likely to fight for themselves and immediately report the incident.

Think about your kids just a little more this Christmas when your family sees that aunt or uncle for the first time in years.
