Should You Give Your Teen Money “Just Because?”

by Miss Mona

The older your kids get, the more money they're going to want from you.

The older your kids get, the more money they're going to want from you.

If it hasn’t already happened to you…

It will.

Your kids are going to start asking you for money.

And the older your kids get, the more money they’re going to want from you.

They’ll want money for video games, going to the movies, getting new clothes, and all sorts of cool tech like iPods, Playstations, and cell phones.

They’ll want money for McDonald’s, for going out with their friends, and for new shoes beyond the “school shoes” you bought them at the beginning of the year.

But as the parent, you’re not sure if you should be giving your teens money just because they want something…

Or if you should be keeping your wallet shut.

But as financial family expert Patti Handy says…

We are doing a huge disservice to our children, specifically teens, when we constantly hand them cash. Unfortunately, they tend to then expect it, time after time. They aren’t taught to manage money, save it or respect it. In time, their perspective of how to earn their own income is warped.

Yikes.

What do you think?
