Teens do some pretty stupid things.
Like choke themselves just to get a high.
What kind of sick game is that?
Apparently it’s called the Choking Game.
Adolescents cut off the flow of blood to the brain, in exchange for a few seconds of feeling lightheaded. Some strangle themselves with a belt, a rope or their bare hands; others push on their chest or hyperventilate.
When they release the pressure, blood that was blocked up floods the brain all at once. This sets off a warm and fuzzy feeling, which is just the brain dying, thousands of cells at a time.
Warm and fuzzy feeling should come when teens catch the eyes their crush, or when they receive a present they’ve always wanted…not when they’re about to die.
Teens do it because they get a high from it, because it’s cool, because it’s risky, because they think they’re being rebellious.
Foolish, I know.
Here are some warning signs you should definitely look out for…
- Suspicious marks on the neck
- Changes in personality or mood
- Headaches, loss of concentration, flushed face
- Bloodshot eyes
- A random thud in their bedroom…
This is when being too nosey or paying attention to the most minute details are worth it. You could save your teen’s life.
