The 3 C’s Your Kids Need You To Teach Them

by Hong Kong Tran

What your kids learn at home is just as important as what they learn at school.

One of the most rewarding things about being a parent is being able to teach your kids what they can’t learn in school. Your kids’ teachers will take care of the reading, writing and arithmetic; you can take care of nurturing the 3Cs: creativity, curiosity & courtesy.

Be a smart parent by NOT focusing just on the academic part of your kids’ lives.

By fostering the 3Cs, your children will be able to do more than spit out answers to questions – they’ll be able to think through problems and will have an easier time dealing with social interactions.

Let’s start with creativity…
Creativity forces children to think outside of that old and boring box. It’s something that will help them to be problem solvers and gain a better appreciation for things.

Can’t have creativity without curiosity. According to Patricia Dischler, these two are a pair. Link your kids’ curiosities to creativity. You can do this “by providing opportunities for [them] to explore possibilities through simple wonderment, or concrete experimentation.”

Finally, courtesy. In order to teach your kids courtesy, YOU have to be courteous. When your kids see that you are dependable, kind, and honest, they’ll naturally imitate your actions.

Which of the 3Cs do you think is most important? Is there a 4th C you could think of?
