The Good Thing About Sharing a Room

by Hong Kong Tran

For some households, having kids share rooms benefits both the kids and the parents.

What’s the one good thing about sharing a room?

In The Parenting Post, a blog on Parenting.com, a blogger finds that one good thing about sharing a room is when she can put both her kids in their cribs with some toys. That’s when she finally has some time for herself.

I think sharing a room goes much deeper than that. I’ve shared a room most of my life! There are actually many good things, not just one.

For babies and toddlers, sharing a room makes it easier on you, because both kids are in one room, so when you check up on one child, you can check up on the other at the same time. You could use the vacant room as a play area for your kids, some place they could throw their toys (because you definitely don’t want the toys all around the living room and kitchen, etc.!)

For the older kids, sharing a room with a sibling gives them someone to talk to at night. Some of my most memorable conversations with my sisters have been shared before going to sleep. Your own kids will learn many things about each other and close bonds can form.

There are many more good things about sharing a room. Can you think of more? Do your kids share a room? How is that working out for you and for them?
