Teachers are some of the most influential individuals in a child’s life. I know that my eleventh grade English teacher helped me discover my love for writing.
Good teachers (and bad ones, too) influence your child in more ways than you can imagine. But let’s be creative here and make a bold claim–let’s color outside of the lines for once…
Parents, or guardians, are the most important teachers of all.
Okay, so maybe it’s not so bold of a claim, but you could certainly use a reminder that what you do affects your child whether you realize it or not.
So what makes parents the most important teachers out there?
Marian Wright Edelman of the Children’s Defense Fund says that:
Parents are their children’s most important teachers and mentors, and they bear primary responsibility for nurturing their sons and daughters while keeping them safe. Yet parenting is one of the most undervalued and least prepared for roles in America.
Use this as a reminder that as a parent, you’re always teaching your child through your own behaviors and actions. So be a good parent to foster good students!
Do you agree that parents are the most important teachers? Who have been your most influential teachers?
