The Snowball Effect

by Hong Kong Tran on February 4, 2010

What things have you been trying to accomplish this year?

It’s not too late to make New Year’s resolutions. In fact, it’s never too late. As long as you are truly motivated, there’s no such thing as “too late.”

Okay, so what do you do when you’re not motivated?

The solution’s simple. Start small.

You can be ambitious and set a goal for yourself, but don’t feel like you have to dramatically change your habits right away. The key word here is “progress.”

If you’ve set a goal to exercise more, start by doing something simple, like walk your dog a couple times a week. Once you get that habit going, you’ll find that “the snowball effect” will come into play. Starting small will not only yield noticeable progress, doing so may change the way you do other things.

Take this into consideration when you’re dealing with your kids. If your kids have developed a bad habit, help them change the habit, but remember to start small.

Do you find that this effect applies to you and your children? Feel free to share your thoughts with other parents in the comments section below.
