Have you ever wondered whether a family with two mommies would be as good of parents as one with a mommy and daddy?
Many researchers have, for decades now. Judith Stacey, a professor of sociology at New York University; and Timothy J. Biblarz, charman of the sociology department at the University of Southern California, published their findings in the Journal of Marriage of Family.
After a total of 81 studies that have been conducted since 1990, Stacey and Biblarz found that…
The offspring of lesbian and heterosexual parents are actually more alike than they are different; and that to date there is no research to suggest that parental gender has any significant impact on the well-being of a child.
In other words: two mommies, or a mommy and a daddy–it doesn’t matter. There is really no difference.
“The bottom line is that it is the quality of parenting, not the gender of the parents, that matters for child outcomes,” said Stacey.
Dr. Ellen C. Perrin, a professor of pediatrics at Tufts School of Medicine, adds that “there is no data that shows that heterosexual couples are any different than same-sex couples in raising healthy children.”
Even if you and your spouse are of the same sex, don’t be discouraged when it comes to parenting. Because there’s no difference!
Do you agree? Do think that two mommies can be as good as mommy-and-daddy?
