Many kids dread the day they have to go back to school after a long break. Especially after winter break (after the holiday festivities, the sleeping in, the relaxing, the worry-free feeling…)
The day before school starts again is, indeed, a sad day for kids.
But there are a few things you can do as a parent to motivate your kids to want to go to school again…
According to Randall Flanery, an assistant professor at St. Louis University’s School of Medicine, you need to first talk to your kids about their anxieties.
Try to understand why they don’t want to go to school. If you address those problems, you’re already motivating them and making it easier for them to readjust to going back to school. Remember to relate to your kids and stay positive.
But what if they make up excuses and just don’t want to go?
Professor C. Alex Pollard suggests to just go with it. Let them stay home.
But he’s got a special twist to it…
Just make sure that they don’t enjoy being at home: No video games, no TV, no fun. Basically, make your kids hate being at home.
Do you agree with Professor Pollard? Is it a good idea to just give in like that?
