Words can hurt, especially when spoken by your child.
Just because your children tell you they don’t love you, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true.
After all, kids say the darndest things.
Don’t worry too much if they are disrespectful towards you. And remember to not blindly punish them without first figuring out what is making them say mean things.
Try saying gently and calmly: “Are you angry with Mommy (or Daddy) about something?” “What do you mean? Tell me more.”
According to Sonja Bogumill, Ph.D., kids say one thing and actually mean to say something else. Chances are, the reasons your children say they don’t love you may be an easy fix.
It’s just like a trail of ants…find the source and you’ll solve the problem.
So if your children tell you they hate you, use your words to solve the problem…because they may not be able to.
