You hear it all the time…
Teens who don’t use their prescribed drugs for the right reasons…
Teens using drugs not prescribed to them for the wrong reasons…
Teens getting addicted to medication…
These stories are never-ending, so doesn’t it scare you that your teens could be doing the same thing?
Among the drugs that many teens use to get high is Adderall, a brand-name drug that doctors prescribe to treat narcolepsy and ADHD.
Taking Adderall can make them feel euphoric – in other words, they feel a high.
And for some reason teens love that.
So they intentionally take more than they should each time to get more of a high.
The unfortunate fact is that Adderall is highly addictive.
Even worse…
Taking high doses of the drug Adderall and then suddently stopping can result in extreme fatigue, depression, and altered sleeping patterns.
Here’s what to do…
Remind your teens that you’re not just a parent, but you’re a friend and someone they can go to if they ever have any problems.
As for the medications:
- Lock up your teens’ medications
- Administer the medications carefully
- Make sure your teens are actually taking the medication, not “cheeking” it
Do you trust your teens with taking their medications responsibly, or do you think it’s a better idea to facilitate their taking the medications yourself?
