I think we can all agree that one of the most rewarding experiences as a parent is holding your baby for the first time. Even if your baby is crying like crazy, the joy that you feel during that first hold is oftentimes inexplicable.
But soon that joy you feel turns into anger and frustration, as you’re frantically trying to find other baby hold positions that will calm the crying baby.
Here are a few baby hold ideas as you begin to think of your own holds:
There’s the “sling,” where you put your baby in a sling (great if you need two hands to do something).
There’s the “leg stretch,” where you sit on the couch and rest your feet on an ottoman or table and place your baby on your thighs, hold the arms and jiggle your legs.
The “chest hold,” which many of you may already know: hold your baby, chest to chest so that both you and the baby could feel each other’s heartbeat, and gently bounce up and down.
And the “football,” where you would cradle the toddler in one arm dangling down by the side.
Which holds of your own have you mastered and seems to work each time?
