Your Teen Will Do What You Do

by Hong Kong Tran on February 2, 2010

Your kids are a reflection of who you are and what you do.

The refrigerator is out of food so you go to the grocery store. Your kids are hungry so you make them food. Their clothes are old so you take them to the mall. They need to meet their friends so you drive them. At the end of the day, your job as a parent is still not done, because part of being a parent is also being a good role model.

So in a sense, parenting never ends, even if you’ve taken care of all the survival needs. Because what you do will reflect in your kids.

When it comes to your teens, it may seem that they could care less about what you say or do, but they’re taking notes. If you’re doing things like watching bootleg movies or having many casual relationships, don’t expect your teens to be miss or mister perfect.

The bottom line is they will do what they see you doing. So in addition to being a good parent, be a good person. Your kids will recognize this even if it seems like half the time they’re not even noticing.
